Preparing the Site
Pygmy Date Palm trees are a beautiful addition to any outdoor living space but they require plenty of sunlight to thrive. It’s best to prepare the planting site prior to bringing the new tree home. Planting the Tree

Once that is done, transfer the tree to the prepared hole, making sure that the root ball is centered in the hole. Backfill the hole with the removed soil, then press down firmly with both hands to eliminate any air pockets. Add 2-3 inches of mulch around the base of the tree to retain moisture and give the roots a boost.
Finally, water the tree deeply and regularly. An inch of water per week should be enough for the tree to become established, but check the soil periodically to make sure it is not dry. In very hot weather, you may need to water more frequently.
Positioning the Tree
Positioning is key when it comes to Pygmy Date Palm trees. It’s important to place the tree in an area that has plenty of filtered sunlight, as the palm needs sun to survive. Placing the tree in a corner or near a wall can help block the cold winter winds, while also providing plenty of afternoon shade.
