Dwarf avocados trees can be grown in many home gardens, thanks to their compact size and many varieties available. They produce fruit, which is a nice bonus for those growing them for ornamental reasons. But how big does a dwarf avocado tree actually get?

The amount an avocado tree will grow will depend on the variety you choose. There are many different kinds, including those that are cold hardy, those that you can simply dwarf with pruning, and some that are already miniature. The average dwarf avocado grows anywhere from five to eight feet tall, while remaining on the narrower side in comparison to other varieties.

The amount of pruning you do to your tree will also determine its size. If you pick a cold hardy variety and essentially let it do its thing, then it will typically stay under 8 feet. However, if you are particularly rigorous in your pruning, then you may be able to limit the growth of your tree so that it remains a little shorter than five feet. This can be accomplished by removing any branches that grow upwards, thus preventing the need for it to reach for the sun.

On the other hand, for those who want an incredibly tiny tree, there are varieties that are specifically bred to remain miniature. These avocados can get no taller than three feet in height, and many reach two feet or less. While more difficult to find, these trees can provide a substantial amount of fruit, but will need a bit more care in order to meet the needs of the plant.
