Almonds are classified as tree nuts by the FDA, but they are actually legumes. Legumes are plants that have seed pods that split open when they mature, and almonds grow inside of these seed pods. Although almonds are tree nuts, they are not as high in fat as other tree nuts like walnuts and pecans.<\/p>\n
