If you have an apple tree that isn’t blooming, there are a few possible reasons why. Maybe the tree is too young – apple trees generally don’t start blooming until they’re at least 4 or 5 years old. Or, it could be that the tree is getting too much nitrogen, which encourages leaf growth at the expense of flowers. Alternatively, the tree could be suffering from a pest or disease problem. Finally, the tree might not be getting enough light – apple trees need at least 6 hours of sunlight per day to produce flowers.<\/p>\n

There are several reasons why an apple tree may not blossom. The tree may be too young, or it may be in a dormant state due to drought or other environmental stressors. If the tree is old enough and typically blooms but has not bloomed recently, the problem may be with the pollination of the flowers.<\/p>\n

How can I encourage my apple tree to flower? <\/h2>\n

NAA and Ethephon are effective at promoting return bloom. The applications of these products should start after the June drop, and once the fruits are over 30 mm in diameter and not sensitive to chemical thinners.<\/p>\n

Bitter cold temperatures during mid-winter can kill flower buds resulting in no crop the following year. There are cultivar differences in susceptibility to winter temperatures. Biennial bearing Apple trees that produce a large crop one year will have few if any flowers and fruit the following year.<\/p>\n
